Project “Systems of industrial waste management” is being implemented in the territories of Čapljina and Jablanica municipalities (Herzegovina-Neretva Canton) and is managed by COSPE, an Italian NGO, in partnership with LiNK Association. Duration of the Project is three years and the implementation started on 01.03.2010. Funding is mainly provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Afairs and the Project is co-funded by the Tuscany Region. Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has also financially supported implementation of this Project.
Overall objective of the Project is to establish a mechanism for collection, selection and valorisation of usable crude waste, creating thus a model of a collection network which will enable collection of waste produced by different industries including production, trade and services. Enterprises from the target area will be able to hand over their waste (cardboard, paper, waste plastic, crude PET, PET packaging, nylon, PE foils, packaging wooden material, wooden waste, iron waste and other metal waste) to managers of two recycling collection points. Such waste will then be selected, processed by presses and then shipped for recycling and further valorisation.
Two recycling collection points will be established, within public communal enterprises in the municipalities of Čapljina and Jablanica, which will employ members of the Roma and other socially marginalised communities.
System and the cycle established during the Project will be an economically independent, self-sustainable cycle, making use of the economic value of the collected and processed waste.
Additionally, the Project will, during its implementation, raise awareness of the local community, public institutions, entrepreneurs, students and children about the importance of the protection of environment, particularly focusing on usable waste, its reuse and recycling.
Beneficiaries of the Project are: • LiNK Association consultants and responsible professionals from the sector of waste collection in municipalities of Čapljina and Jablanica, relevant officials of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (12 persons in total) which will undergo trainings and receive expert support relating to management, processing and valorisation of packaging and industrial waste as well as its proper final processing. • Entrepreneurs, by using services of the management of finalized product – waste • Apart from the benefits provided by Project activities, all relevant actors in the target territories will be able to make use of the management of finalized product – waste produced by their businesses.
